How much does a website cost in 2026?

"It depends" is true, but not very helpful. Here are real price ranges for 2026, what pushes a project up or down, and what you'll pay every year after launch.

These are ranges for professional work by a studio. A DIY builder is cheaper upfront. A large agency can easily be double.

What drives the price

  • Design: a template you adjust is cheaper than a design made for your brand.
  • Number of page types: ten pages using one layout cost less than five completely different ones.
  • Content: do you supply texts and photos, or do we write and source them?
  • Features: booking, payments, member areas, multi-language or links with your CRM all add time.
  • SEO: a technical foundation is standard. Keyword research and content strategy is extra work, and worth it.
  • Speed and security: well-built sites cost a bit more and save a lot later.

Running costs per year

Launch is not the end. Budget for these every year:

  • Domain name: roughly €10 – €20 per year.
  • Managed hosting: from €30 per month for a business site, including server management, updates and backups.
  • Maintenance and security: about €50 – €250 per month, depending on size and how fast you need help.
  • Paid plugins or licences: often €50 – €300 per year in total.

How to get a fair quote

  1. Write down your goal in one sentence: more calls, more sales, fewer emails?
  2. List the must-have features, and the nice-to-haves separately.
  3. Ask for a fixed price for a clear scope, not an hourly estimate.
  4. Check what's included after launch: training, support, maintenance.
  5. Ask who owns the site and the code once it's paid. It should be you.

Frequently asked questions

Is WordPress cheaper than a custom-built site?

Usually, yes. WordPress is a great fit for most business sites. Custom code makes sense when you need complex features or very high performance.

How long does it take to build a website?

A small business website takes about 3 to 6 weeks. Larger projects take 2 to 4 months, mostly depending on content and feedback.

Why do website quotes differ so much?

Because the scope differs. Compare what's included: design, content, SEO, training and support after launch.
